Flower Parade Vollenhove (28th August 2010)
| What is the Flower Parade? |
This annual Flower event is one of the Dutch most famous flower events, taking place in the city center of Vollenhove. Every flower car has its own subject, style and expression to win the highest price. |

| Where? |
You can see the Flower Parade in the center of the fishing village of Vollenhove, a village once looking out on the water of the former Zuiderzee. |

| When? |
The Flower Parade can be seen at the last Saturday of August; 25th August 2007 in the afternoon as well as in the evening. In the evening the parade is extra special because of the lighted cars. |

In the morning there is a flower parade especially for children, made by children.
In the afternoon and in the evening the app. 14 flower cars made of over 2 million dahlia flowers with professional performers and with the enthusiastic music of national show bands. The sizes of the flower cars are about 10-14 meters long, 3,5 meters wide and 10 meters high and will ride through the narrow streets of Vollenhove.

 The dahlia flower
The dahlia flower was discovered in 1788 in Mexico by Baron Von Humboldt. The Spanish botanist Cavanilles classified these flower and named them after his Swedish colleague Dahl. The dahlia flower has many shapes and colours. The flower parade in Vollenhove mainly uses the spherical dahlia. The main colours are red white, yellow, purple, lilac, orange and black (dark red).
The two million dahlia flowers will be picked in Vollenhove and other cities on the thursday before the event. After being picked, all the participants will glue or staple the flowers on the flower cars one by one. At that time the building of the flower cars has taken already more than six months. |
